Resilient Showing from Both Teams at Stoneham

Wednesday 7th May 2025 - 21:19

It was a testing start to the day for our teams, with travel delays making the trip to Stoneham anything but smooth. However, once on the pitch, both the Yellows and Greens showed great resilience and commitment in a series of closely contested matches.

It was a low-scoring day, with just one goal for the club — a well-taken effort from Andy Clutton. Unfortunately, that lone goal was accompanied by two blue cards, adding to the intensity of the occasion.

The Yellows put in a solid performance, finishing 5th in Tier 2 after grinding out three draws to earn 3 points. The Greens matched them for points, also securing three draws, but unfortunately finished at the foot of the table on goal difference.

It was certainly a tough day at the office, but the margins were razor-thin — the Yellows even struck the post twice in their final match, narrowly missing out on a potential victory.

Well done to everyone involved for sticking together and showing great resilience. Onward to the next round of fixtures!

Great Day Out at Bognor Regis Town FC Tournament

Sunday 27th April 2025 - 16:38

A big thank you to everyone who took part in Sunday’s tournament at Bognor Regis Town FC — and in true Gosport tradition, names were exchanged, and some were even remembered!

Once the football kicked off, the action came thick and fast:

  • Game 1: A narrow 0–1 loss to Worthing, who went on to win the tournament.
  • Game 2: A typically tense match against Portsmouth NSG, but we dug deep to secure a 1–1 draw.
  • Game 3: First win of the day with a solid 1–0 victory over Bognor Greens.
  • Game 4: Against runners-up Corinthian Casuals, we went goal crazy with a stunning 5–0 win — and yes, even I played!
  • Game 5: A goalless stalemate against Bognor Oranges in a tight affair.
  • Game 6: Our final game was a 0–1 defeat to Bognor Blacks — easily the angriest team there (though mostly with themselves!).

All in all, it was a cracking day of walking football and camaraderie, made even more memorable by the venue. This may have been our last visit to the Bognor Regis Town FC pitch before it's replaced with artificial turf over the summer — so we certainly gave it a good send-off.

Over 65s Bow Out in WFA National Cup First Round

Sunday 20th April 2025 - 23:25

It was a tough day at the office for our Over 65s in the WFA National Cup, as they faced a strong and energetic Bournemouth side. Despite plenty of effort and teamwork on display, Bournemouth’s mobility and sharpness proved too much on the day, and the match ended in a 4–0 defeat.

Although the result didn’t go our way, it was a great opportunity for our team to test themselves at a high level of competition and gain valuable experience in a national tournament setting.

With the Over 65s campaign now complete, all eyes turn to our Over 50s squad as we await news of who we’ll face — and where — in the second round of their WFA National Cup journey.

Battling Performance at Over 50s Hampshire Cup

Saturday 5th April 2025 - 20:05

It was a busy and exhausting morning for our Over 50s squad at the Hampshire Cup, as they battled through a tough set of group stage fixtures under warm conditions.

The group phase saw us earn hard-fought draws against both Hawks and Portsmouth — familiar faces in both squads with ex-Gosport players Greig, Keith, Dave Rhodes (Hawks), and Carl (Portsmouth) lining up against us. We also faced strong opposition in Compton (regular winners of the Stoneham top division), Salisbury Whites, and Tadley — the latter of which was a particularly disappointing loss.

Despite the mixed results, the team progressed to the Plate competition, where they came from behind to defeat Salisbury Reds 3–1 in a spirited performance that booked a place in the semi-final.

Unfortunately, fatigue began to set in after a packed morning of consecutive matches. In the semi-final against Hawks, our energy levels dipped, and they ultimately ‘ran’ out 2–0 winners.

Overall, a valiant effort from the squad in testing heat and against quality opposition. The effort and team spirit were evident throughout.

Yellows Crowned Champions at Stoneham Tournament

Wednesday 2nd April 2025 - 14:54

It was a morning to remember at the Hants League, held at Stoneham Lane Football Complex — especially for the Yellows, who put in a remarkable display to take top spot in their division, affectionately dubbed “La Liga.”

While both Gosport teams (Yellows and Greens) only suffered a single loss apiece, the Yellows stood out by turning tight contests into victories, showing determination and composure throughout the morning.

The Greens, despite battling hard, finished in a respectable 4th place. Perhaps the green kit really *is* cursed?

Congratulations to all involved — and a special mention to Dave Blake, who unfortunately had to leave before team photos were taken.
